NetWorker: NMM Hyper-V Linux VM GLR is not supported
Summary: Networker Module for Microsoft support for Hyper-V Linux VM GLR
Symptoms
With Networker Module for Microsoft (NMM), Hyper-V Linux VM Granular Level Recovery (GLR) is not supported.
Example errors that may be shown if this is attempted:
Unable to mount volumes for physical drive '\\.\PhysicalDriveXX' Attaching hard disk failed. End time: <date time>
Cause
This is a limitation in Networker Module for Microsoft .
The NMM documentation states:
You can perform GLR of NMM backups of Hyper-V virtual machine that has a Windows operating system. NMM does not support GLR of non-Windows virtual machines on Hyper-V, for example Linux virtual machines.
Resolution
Prior Networker Module for Microsoft 19.12 , you can only perform image recovery of Linux VM.
Starting Networker Module for Microsoft 19.12 added support for FLR of Hyper-V Server Linux virtual machines.
You can use the hyperv_linux_glr_recover binary (command) to perform the FLR. The binary mounts the Linux VHDs that contain the items to recover.
