What is the vSAN observer?

  • The VMware vSAN Observer is a monitoring and troubleshooting tool for vSAN.
  • The tool is launched from RVC and can be used for monitoring performance statistics for vSAN live mode or offline.
  • A web browser can be pointed at vCenter Server to see live graphs related to the performance of vSAN when running in live mode.

How to enable vSAN observer?

From the RVC command line:

cd localhost/Datacenter/computers/
 vsan.observer ~/computers/<VSAN Cluster Name >  -run-webserver  -force

On a web browser:
You can now go to the vCenter Server hostname or IP Address and add the port number specified in the output from the previous step.

By default the port used by vSAN is 8010.
