Symptoms

NetWorker server services fail to start because the underlying client service (nsrexecd) cannot start.
The NetWorker client service nsrexecd cannot start, it exits immediately after starting.
nsrexced -D9 shows that another connection is open on port 7938 which is dedicated to nsrexecd.

Cause

There was a hang TCP connection on the operating system with port 7938:

# netstat -anop |grep -i 7938
tcp6       0      1 ::1:44115               ::1:7938                SYN_SENT    -                    off (0.00/0/0)

SYN_SENT is a transitional state, even difficult to catch and it is initial connection request from client to server.

Resolution

  1. Ensure optimized kernel, and TCP parameters are configured on the NetWorker server: NetWorker: Best practices for networking configuration
  2. Reboot the host.
NOTE: This is not a NetWorker issue. If this issue reappears or root cause of the SYN_SENT hang is required, consult with the system administrator or OS vendor support team.
