Symptoms

When issuing FREE with CHECKONLINEPATHSTATUS(NO/YES) against the online device, the ESNPT31E message indicates unclear reason of the failure.

Cause

This is due to a software issue.

Resolution

The code has been updated to fail with the appropriate ESNPT31E message depending on the CHECKONLINEPATHSTATUS settings.    
                                              
If devices are online to a current system and CHECKONLINEPATHSTATUS(N) is specified , the
 ' ESNPT31E FREE TARGET DEVICE WAS FOUND ONLINE TO THIS SYSTEM. THE TARGET DEVICE MUST BE OFFLINE TO THIS SYSTEM' error is issued.   

If devices are online to any system and CHECKONLINEPATHSTATUS(Y) is specified, the ' ESNPT31E FREE                
TARGET DEVICE WAS FOUND ONLINE TO A SYSTEM. THE TARGET  DEVICE MUST BE OFFLINE TO ALL SYSTEMS ' error is issued.
Permanent Fix:
  • For Mainframe Enablers 8.5, PTF SN85069 has been developed to correct the issue. It is available to download from Dell Online Support.
  • For Mainframe Enablers 8.4, PTF SN84088 has been developed to correct the issue. It is available to download from Dell Online Support.

A FREE action was requested, and the target device was found to be online.
Action
