PowerFlex: OS Patching Does Not Run in Parallel on PDs

Symptoms

When using the REST API call liaRunOsPatching with the parameter isRunningInParallelOnPds, the updating process does not run on the nodes in parallel as expected.

The examples below refer to a PowerFlex Management Platform (PFMP) 4.x system, but will also occur on a PFMP 5.x system.

Example:

SDS_x.x.x.179 is the last in pd4, and SDS_x.x.x.178 is the first in pd3 - they are processed in parallel:

Impact

OS updating take longer time to complete than expected.

 

Cause

Due to a software issue in the OS updating logic, the process intended to run commands on nodes in a PD in parallel runs sequentially instead.

Resolution

There is no workaround available.
