Resolution
The user may be continuously prompted for their Encryption Admin Password (EAP), after upgrading to Shield version 8.13 through 8.15.
Sometimes the shield may incorrectly identify a Hardware Crypto-Accelerator module is installed in the computer.
If this occurs you see the following log entries in the shield log, C:\ProgramData\Dell\Dell Data Protection\Encryption:
SystemProvision: 766 I] Enc Accel Provisioning - Begin SystemProvision: 782 H] Enc Accel Provisioning - Is GPE installed and available for use? - TRUE SecurePwd.cpp: 585 E] Secured password is already UNLOCKED. GPEDevice.cpp: 76 E] Failed to take GPE ownership [result=0x5], "DCR_NOT_FOUND" SystemProvision: 800 E] Enc Accel Provisioning - Failed to provision GPE because it is already owned with EAP different than the current one. Clear your GPE lifecycle!!!!
Warning: The next step is a Windows Registry edit:
- Back up the Registry before proceeding, reference How to Back Up and Restore the Registry in Windows
.
- Editing the Registry can cause the computer to become unresponsive on the next reboot.
- Contact Dell Data Security International Support Phone Numbers for assistance if you have concerns about performing this step.
If you believe that the computer did not ship with a Hardware Crypto-Accelerator module, then this issue may be resolved by creating the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ST7007
Creating a .reg file with the following contents, then importing it into the registry automatically creates the required key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ST7007] "AddedManually"=dword:00000001
