Check if Your Keyboard Has Backlighting

Not all Dell computers come with backlit keyboards. Here is how to find out if yours does:

Look for the Backlit key (Keyboard Backlit Key) on your keyboard. You will typically find it on one of these keys:

  • F5, F6, F7, or F10

  • A dedicated backlight key

Do you not see the Backlit key? Your keyboard does not have this feature. Check your Dell computer documentation to confirm your model's specifications.

To cycle through the brightness options

If Your Backlit Key Is on a Function or Arrow Key, perform the following steps.

  1. Press and hold the Fn key
  2. Press the Backlit key
  3. Continue pressing the Backlit key to cycle through brightness levels

Not working? Change the lock mode by perform the following steps.

  1. Press and hold the Fn key.
  2. Press the Esc key and release both.

  2. Immediately start pressing the F2 key once per second (if the computer boots into Windows, shut down the computer and try again).
  3. Once in the BIOS, select Keyboard.
