Upgrading the PowerFlex management controller 2.0
Before upgrading the PowerFlex management controller 2.0, complete the following initial set of upgrade procedures:
- Planning for an upgrade
- Backing up the environment
- Configuring the PowerFlex jump server
- Downloading the upgrade files
- Performing health checks prior to the upgrade
- Verify and upgrade the CPLD firmware on PowerFlex nodes
- Upgrading PowerFlex Manager
- Preparing compliance files and OS images
- Configuring storage policies for upgrades
- Upgrading VMware vCenter
- Upgrading CloudLink Center
NOTE: The procedures covered in this section are only applicable to a PowerFlex management controller that uses PowerFlex storage.
After completing the initial set of upgrade procedures, depending on the upgrade path, complete the following procedures:

Upgrading the PowerFlex management node
Use the manual procedures in this section to upgrade the PowerFlex management node (single non-HA node). This is applicable only for PowerFlex appliance.
Before upgrading the PowerFlex management node, complete all the following relevant procedures:
- Planning for an upgrade
- Backing up the environment
- Configuring the PowerFlex jump server
- Downloading the upgrade files
- Performing health checks prior to the upgrade
- Verify and upgrade the CPLD firmware on PowerFlex nodes
- Upgrading PowerFlex Manager
- Preparing compliance files and OS images
- Configuring storage policies for upgrades
- Upgrading VMware vCenter
- Upgrading CloudLink Center
NOTE:Ensure you upgrade the management virtual machine manually, in case of a PowerFlex management node with PowerFlex.
- Upgrading the OS packages on the management virtual machine
- Stage and upgrade the iDRAC and firmware
- Take snapshots of the PowerFlex management controller VMs
- Shut down all the VMs running on the PowerFlex management node
- Power off the PowerFlex management node
- Upgrade VMware ESXi
- Install additional OEM drivers on the PowerFlex management controller
- Power on the PowerFlex management node
- Delete snapshots of the PowerFlex management controller VMs
Upgrading the PowerFlex management controller 1.0
Before upgrading the PowerFlex management controller 1.0, complete all the following relevant procedures:
- Planning for an upgrade
- Backing up the environment
- Configuring the PowerFlex jump server
- Downloading the upgrade files
- Performing health checks prior to the upgrade
- Verify and upgrade the CPLD firmware on PowerFlex nodes
- Upgrading PowerFlex Manager
- Preparing compliance files and OS images
- Configuring storage policies for upgrades
- Upgrading VMware vCenter
- Upgrading CloudLink Center
NOTE:The following procedures are only applicable to a PowerFlex management controller that uses vSAN storage.
