Troubleshooting

Problems Possible Solutions
Cannot detect webcam.
  1. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable.
  2. Check if the webcam is detected in Windows Device Manager.
  3. Disconnect the webcam from any docking stations or dongles you are using and connect it directly to the computer.
  4. Ensure that the webcam cable is inserted completely into the USB Type-C port of the webcam.
Unable to select 4K resolution in camera setting. Ensure that the webcam cable is inserted completely into the USB Type-C port of the webcam. Check if the webcam is connected to a USB Type-A 3.0 port on your computer? It needs sufficient throughput to support 4K video.
Camera LED behavior.
  • USB Connected to the computer and power: White LED and IR LED blink once.
  • Preview the main camera image: White LED solid.
  • Windows Hello camera working: IR LED Fast blinking.
Walk Away Lock and Wake on Approach does not work. The Walk Away Lock and Wake on Approach features do not work on computers that support an S3 sleep state.
Image or video shows artifacts and flickering, possibly due to interference from LED or Florescent light sources. Your environmental lighting level can affect this. To resolve this, go to the Dell Peripheral Manager application and then to Color and Image:
  1. Switch on the Anti Flicker toggle.
  2. Toggle between 50 Hz and 60 Hz to check which eliminates the flickering.
Autoframing does not work when camera is set to run 60 Frames Per Second (fps). The Dell WB7022 webcam does not support 60 fps at 4K. Auto Framing zoom-in will stop working at Full-HD resolution. (To avoid resolution drops during auto framing.) The webcam can only support autoframing when the webcam is configured on 4K @ 24 fps or 30 fps.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When you open an application that uses the webcam, such as Dell Peripheral Manager (DPM), or Microsoft (MS) Camera, or Device Manager. Is the Dell WB7022 webcam detected? When, you look at both LEDs on the WB7022 webcam do they keep flashing?

This could occur if not enough power is being delivered to the camera:

  • The webcam is connected to a third-party Dock that is not delivering sufficient power through the USB cable.
  • The third-party Dock firmware is outdated.
  • The USB Asmedia driver is outdated.
  • The webcam is connected to a 7.5 W Type-C connector on your computer.
  • The adapter is not plugged in.

You should:

  1. Check that any third-party dock firmware or USB Asmedia driver is updated to the latest revision possible.

  2. Check that the USB connector that the webcam is connected through can support full USB 3.0 power.

  3. Connect the webcam directly to your computer if possible.

If you quickly hot-plugged the webcam, does the DPM, and Microsoft Camera applications display the camera feed?

The Windows Camera frame server service will need time to run, whenever the webcam is removed and connected too quickly. If this happens, then no other application can access the webcam for up to 5 to 10 minutes.

To avoid seeing this issue, you should always Wait a few seconds after unplugging a camera or webcam before you replug it to your computer.

The Dell WB7022 webcam requires a USB 3.0 connection in order to support 4K video feeds. (Preferably a connection through a cable plugged directly to the computer.)

If you do not have the webcam connected through USB 3.0, the 4KUHD option is not offered by the DPM application.

The Dell WB7022 webcam does support HDR.

However, this is not the optimal setting to use in low light conditions. If you are in a low light condition, we recommend turning the HDR option off.

HDR works best under high contrast conditions.

Usually the answer is no.

However, if the webcam is plugged to the same hub as a 2.4 Hz or Bluetooth dongle. The dongle device may experience some lag. We recommend you do not connect a dongle next to where the webcam is connected.

Certain light sources, such as fluorescent or reflected LCD lighting may cause the webcam image to flicker.

In DPM, you can check the Anti-Flicker feature under Color and Image, or you can switch between 50 Hz and 60 Hz to stop this. Turning off HDR can help in low light conditions.

Note: Walk Away Lock does not work on computers that use the S3 power state.

Walk Away Lock is a feature that uses the webcam or computers proximity sensor to activate the Windows Lock Screen feature. It does this when it detects you have left the computer or it does not detect any movement.

Does your conferencing or presentation application block Walk Away Lock during use? If not, you may want to disable the Walk Away Lock feature under Proximity Detection on DPM yourself.

If you put the webcam cap over the lens while Walk Away Lock is activated. It will lock your screen.

The answer for this is usually no.

However, you should still be able to detect and swap between any camera or webcam that is attached or integrated to your computer. (Depending on the application.)

Is your Dell WB7022 webcam the only camera source that is detected by the applications that would use a camera? You may have enabled a feature that is built in to DPM. (It was meant to prioritize the webcam for the Windows Hello facial recognition.)

There is a check box next to the Prioritize External webcam feature under Camera Control, that enables or disables this feature.

Yes, conferencing applications are supported.

Note: In Zoom, we recommend you select the HD Option, this gives better video quality and supports the 78 and 90 degree Field of View (FOV).

Yes, this webcam works with Windows Hello facial recognition.

Note: After Windows Hello login when digital zoom or auto framing is turned on, the webcam video may start digital zoom or auto framing. This does not affect the Windows Hello log-in, but you can always turn-off the digital zoom and auto framing functions.
Note: The Dell Peripheral Manager Software that is used to customize your webcam settings is only supported on the Windows 10 64 Bit Operating System.

You can use the webcam on the Mac Operating System and have a seamless experience on your Zoom and Teams calls (certified webcam). However, you cannot make changes to the webcam settings that are enabled using the software. Features such as HDR, AI Auto Framing, Changing Field of View angles are available only using the software application.
