Restore of Hyper-V VM Failed with "Hyper-V VSS Writer is not in proper state while restore"

Symptoms
Hyper-V VSS restore is failing with errors similar to the following message:
avhypervvss Error <41548>: Hyper-V VSS Writer is not in proper state while restore. Failed to recover 'SCVMM DELLEMC Resources<XXXX>'. avhypervvss Error <41624>: Failed to restore targets. avhypervvss Error <41620>: Recover did not complete successfully
Cause
Microsoft Hyper-V VSS writer might be in a failed state on the Hyper-V host server. This can be verified by running the following command in the Windows Command or PowerShell prompt:
vssadmin list writers
Resolution
- Open the
services.mscconsole and restart the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service on the Hyper-V host server:

- Verify that the Hyper-V writer is in a good state by running the following command in the Windows Command or PowerShell prompt:
vssadmin list writers
- Re-run the Hyper-V virtual machine (VM) restore.
