MFE SCF: A Busy-condition Return Code From a System Call Leads to a SCF0613E CSC Message

Summary: Cross-System Communication (CSC) unnecessarily issues a SCF0613E message when the Application Programming Interface (API) scratch processing area misinterprets a busy-condition return code from a system call (SYSCALL). CSC then reestablishes access to the controller and successfully issues the request. ...

Symptoms

In the Symmetrix Control Facility (SCF) log, the following messages can be seen:
SCFSCRRW I/O ERR R15=00000000 IOBRC=00000041 IOBECB=41 IOSTSA=0C
SCFSCRRW - UCB@ 02652EE0 (gk) SYSCALL 8113 FAILED, RC 00000008
SCF0613E CSC Write/swap failed, RC:00000008, RS:00000004 (IO failure)

Cause

The API scratch area processing misinterprets a busy-condition SYSCALL return code as an I/O error. It then returns this SYSCALL failure to CSC, which generates the SCF0613E message. The SYSCALL should have been retried in the API scratch processing before returning it to CSC and unnecessarily generating the SCF0613E message.
