Avamar: Package (.avp) installation fails with directory or permission errors

Symptoms

The Avinstaller.log reports the following types of events trying to install the avp:

WARNING: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException; lineNumber: 1; columnNumber: 1; Content is not allowed in prolog.
INFO: Command: tar -xzf /data01/avamar/repo/temp/v7_5_1_101_mc_cumulative_201807.avp_1537494091887/v7_5_1_101_mc_cumulative_201807.avp --directory=/data01/avamar/repo/temp/v7_5_1_101_mc_cumulative_201807.avp_1537494091887 pkgdef.xml data/help.pdf callabledef.xml sys-info sys-info.sig  returned an error:

  • Both the /data01/avamar/repo and avp package permissions are correct:

  • The workflow log does not exist in /data01/avamar/repo/temp/<packagename>/tmp

 

  • Avinstaller.log reported errors such as the following during flush (this may have been reported for some months):
INFO: Flush exit stderr: sudo: cannot get working directory
shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory
job-working-directory: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory

Cause

From Avamar 7.5.1.x, the avinstaller process runs as avi as opposed to root (prior to v7.5.1.x).

Resolution

1. Access the AvInstaller directly using one of the following:

https://<avamar-server-name>:8543/avi

https://<avamar-server-name>/avi
 

2. Restart the avinstaller.

3. Retry the installation.
