Upgrading VMware Tool to 12.1
There are two options to upgrade VMware tool.
- Uninstall the third party VMware tools and install the official SUSE open-vm-tools, the latter is upgraded by the Rollup.
- Keep VMware-tools installed and upgrade those tools manually, using VMware known procedures.
Installing Official SUSE VMware Tools Manually
Follow these steps to install official SUSE VMware tools manually:
- Extract security rollup for proxy to get RPM files.
- Download the following files:
libdrm2-2.4.97-2.28.x86_64.rpmlibmspack0-0.4-15.10.1.x86_64.rpmlibvmtools0-12.1.0-4.45.1.x86_64.rpmlibxmlsec1-1-1.2.28-8.2.1.x86_64.rpmlibxmlsec1-openssl1-1.2.28-8.2.1.x86_64.rpmopen-vm-tools-12.1.0-4.45.1.x86_64.rpm
- Apply these files on proxy as root in order:
cd /tmp rpm -ivh libdrm2-2.4.97-2.28.x86_64.rpm rpm -ivh libmspack0-0.4-15.10.1.x86_64.rpm rpm -ivh libvmtools0-12.1.0-4.45.1.x86_64.rpm rpm -ivh libxmlsec1-1-1.2.28-8.2.1.x86_64.rpm rpm -ivh libxmlsec1-openssl1-1.2.28-8.2.1.x86_64.rpm rpm -ivh open-vm-tools-12.1.0-4.45.1.x86_64.rpm - Disable vmware-tools and enable vmtoolsd function:
systemctl stop vmware-tools systemctl disable vmware-tools systemctl enable vmtoolsd systemctl start vmtoolsd - Reboot proxy.
