VCF on VxRail cluster nodes relocation

 

The following steps can relocate vSAN cluster without decommissioning hosts and while maintaining the same vCenter Server.

  1. Preparation:
    • Ensure that there is current and tested backups of critical Virtual Machine workloads.
    • Verify that the vSAN VMkernel, Host Management, vMotion, and any additional dependent network routing schemes are properly configured and tested
  1. Physical Move:
    • Power off all virtual machines running on the vSAN cluster.
    • Disconnect the ESXi hosts from the current vSAN cluster.
    • Physically move the hardware to the new location.
  1. Reconfiguration:
    • Reconnect the ESXi hosts to the vSAN cluster in the new location.
    • Ensure that all network configurations are intact and functioning correctly.
    • Power on the virtual machines and verify their operation.
  1. Post-Move Checks:
    • Perform a vSAN health check to ensure that everything is functioning as expected.
    • Monitor the performance and stability of the vSAN cluster in the new location
