Data Domain: Storage Management: Viewing File Distribution

PURPOSE

This document describes the file age and size distribution on the Data Domain. The file sizes can have a significant impact on performance of the Data Domain Operating System (DDOS), including replication, compression, and general read/write performance. If having performance issues in one or more areas, this information may be applicable.

The File Distribution section has two portions; the first describes files by their age and the second describes files by their size.

This line (based on the example above) tells us there are 23 files that are 1 day old or less. These files account for 9.0% of all files on the DDR. In total, they take up 2611.6 gigabytes, and account for 12.9% of all the space being used on the Data Domain:

By contrast, these lines tell us that there are 52 files between 100GB and 500GB. These files account for 20.4% of all the files on the DDR. Altogether they take up 19603.8GB of space, and account for 96.8% of the space being used on this Data Domain.
