How to troubleshoot Azman issues?

Resolution

Problem:

Users have fewer rights within Creator as they should, or do not have enough rights.

Resolution:

Creator use Azman role management to specify what rights a user has, this adjusts what menu items and functions the user can perform within the UI.

You can view and change these rigthts through the Azman.msc console.

Goto a Run command and type Azman.msc, this will open the Authorization Manager, in here you can right click the Authorization Maanger in the left hand column and open a Authorization store.

In most Creator installations you will have XML file based permissions, by default this file is stored in:

%systemdrive%\Program Files (x86)\Dell VIS\Creator Server\Store\Security.xml

However if you are using Creator in HA mode then your Azman roles are going to be stored in the Creator database, in which case you will need to select the Connection as Microsoft SQL rather then XML file and use the following connection path

mssql://Driver={SQL Server};Server={Name_of_SQL_Server_and_Instance};/Name_of_Database/Repository

To administer the store you will by default need to be a member of the local Administrators group for the machine where the store is located.

You can view, in the Creator store, rights assigned to the different Enterprise groups that you have created, view which groups or users are members of the Enterprise Admin group. In the Metamodel store you can also view rights and roles that can be assigned the Repository.

If you are experiencing issues with rights in Creator it is a good step to check who is a member of the groups that you assign to the Enterprise Admin role, if many groups are involved or the group memberships is complex it is a good idea to remove groups from these roles and check permissions with individual accounts to rule out which groups are causing permission problems.
