Summary: An incorrect URL specification may cause activation issues in Dell Security Management Server (formerly Dell Data Protection | Enterprise Edition). The activating device indicates that it cannot connect to server nor activate. ...
Symptoms
Affected Products:
- Dell Security Management Server
- Dell Data Protection | Enterprise Edition
Affected Versions:
- v7.7 and Later
Dell Encryption (formerly Dell Data Protection | Encryption) v7.7 and newer supports activation in two ways:
- Legacy Device Server
- Security Server
Cause
Not Applicable
Resolution
Customer with older clients may use both ways for now. When specifying the URL you want to connect to, you must be aware of whether you are connecting to a Device Server or Security Server. The URLs are different. If you use the wrong URL for either server, you cannot activate. Below are the default URLs for the two servers. The example below shows the default ports for each server, although you can customize the ports. The critical consideration is the trailing /.
- Device Server:
https://myserver.goes.here:8081/xapi
- Security Server:
https://myserver.goes.here:8443/xapi/
- If a trailing
/is added to the Device Server’s URL, the endpoint device cannot connect to the server. The trailing/only works when an endpoint device is trying to connect to the Security Server’s URL. - In Dell Server 9.0 and higher, the trailing
/is not required in the URL.
