Symptoms

Affected Products:

  • Dell BitLocker Manager

Affected Versions:

  • v11.1

Affected Operating Systems:

  • Windows

Cause

After upgrading to Dell BitLocker Manager 11.1, you may observe increased CPU or Disk usage. This is due to a change to ensure machines match the Encryption Method and Cipher Strength policy set on the Dell Data Security server.

Resolution

In previous versions of Dell BitLocker Manager, existing encryption algorithms took priority over those set on the Dell Security Management server. For example, if BitLocker existed on an endpoint and used AES-128 encryption, but the Dell Data Security server policy was set to AES-256 and Dell BitLocker Manager was installed, the endpoint would continue to use AES-128. With version 11.1, Dell BitLocker Manager now decrypts and then re-encrypts the data with the algorithm set by Encryption Method and Cipher Strength on the Dell Data Security server.
