How to Install or Reinstall a Dell Printer in Windows

  1. Click the Start button or press the Windows Keyboard button and type Control Panel to filter to the Control Panel icon.

  2. Once the Control Panel launches, select Devices and Printers.

  3. On the top menu bar, click Add a Printer.

  4. The Add Printer dialogue opens and begins to search for available printers. Click The printer that I want isn't listed to manually setup the printer.

  5. Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname and then click Next.

  6. In the Hostname or IP address field, enter the IP address of the printer. Clear the option for Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use, then click Next.

  7. If prompted for Additional Port Information, under Device Type, select Standard, select Generic Network Card, then click Next.

  8. Select Have Disk.

  9. Click Browse.

  10. Go to the extracted files and then click Open.

  11. Often the driver is a few directories deep. In this case, we select the Printer folder first.
    Note: The instructions in this step are a general guide using one driver package as an example. Different driver packages have slightly different folder structures.

  12. We are then presented with a choice between Printer Command Language (PCL) and Post-Script (PS) drivers. In this example, we are choosing PS.

  13. Language options are often present. In our example, we select English.

  14. Operating computer folders are also common. For our example, we select WINXP_VISTA_64 meaning 64-bit drivers for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. If your version of Windows is newer than those listed (as in this example), use the latest operating system version with the correct architecture.

  15. Select the driver (*.inf) file, in this case dp5330.inf, and click Open.

  16. In the Install From Disk dialogue, click OK.

  17. Some driver packages may include drivers for more than one model or variant. Select the correct model from the list if applicable, then click Next.

  18. The Printer name may be changed if wanted or left as default, then click Next.

  19. Choose if the printer should be shared, with this personal computer acting as a print server, then click Next. If you are unsure, select Do not share this printer.
