Symptoms

Unexpected module restart and in some rare cases both nodes may experience an unexpected module restart leading to service disruption.

Cause

The following conditions must be met for the issue to exist:

  • Metro is configured.
  • Write I/O to the same stretched volume LBAs from any appliance.
  • Host I/O to the ALUA non-optimized node on either appliance.

Due to a software issue, the above conditions can lead to an unexpected Data Path assert.

Resolution

The issue is addressed in PowerStoreOS 4.1.0 and later.

Workaround

Customer should verify that hosts are configured according to PowerStore best practices. Hosts should communicate with the ALUA optimized node on either the preferred or non-preferred side.
