複製的最佳實務規定，應將工作負載劃分為多個背景關係。有時，通過使用一個（或幾個）大型池在這些最佳實踐之外創建 VTL 配置，並遇到性能下降。發生這種情況時，Data Domain 支援建議將集區分解為多個背景關係。

有了以 Mtree 為基礎的 VTL 集區，磁帶便可在來源集區之間安全地移動，或複製到目的地的其他集區，無須停機。
唯一需要注意的是，在將磁帶移動到其他集區之前，先從源頭將磁帶匯出到 Vault，以確保用戶端在移動時不會訪問磁帶。
將大型 VTL 集區分解為多個較小集區有 2 種不同的方法：
 
  1. 將來源中的磁帶移至新集區，而不中斷現有複寫
主要優點是不需要中斷複製。
為了保證副本磁帶始終在目標上可用，即使在同步新的 VTL 池之前，也應將計劃在源中移動的臨時池副本磁帶複製到不同的池中。
  1. 中斷複寫，然後將來源的磁帶移至新集區
主要優點是，您可以只在目標處重命名 VTL 池，以保留所有副本磁帶的副本。
缺點是需要為所有磁帶重新創建複製，即使對於保留在源的原始池中的磁帶也是如此。

為了提供命令示例，假設我們有一個名為 Big_Pool 的大型 VTL 池，其中包含 10000 個條碼BG0000L5 BG9999L5的磁帶，它們都導入到 VTL 庫中，名為 big_vtl，我們希望將其分解為 10 個 VTL 池，每個池有 1000 個磁帶。
