Instructions

Background

PowerStore is equipped with various layers and tools to identify health issues. The PowerStoreOS integrated health checks and alerts are responsible for detecting most issues. For health checks not covered by PowerStoreOS or those requiring regular monitoring, PowerStoreOS 4.0 introduces RxDefinitions for known issues. In addition, the thin package feature in PowerStore enables updating the RxDefinitions on the installed PowerStore post the PowerStoreOS release.

Should an issue listed in the RxDefinitions be identified during the routine scan of known issues, an alert is generated to inform the PowerStore Manager user. In cases where the alert is of 'Critical' severity and the cluster has Support Connectivity activated, a notification is dispatched to Dell.

RxDefinition Package

The corresponding RxDefinitions health check package for the PowerStoreOS version must be uploaded and then installed to ensure the PowerStore cluster operates optimally.

The health check package must be uploaded to the PowerStore cluster and then installed.

IMPORTANT

Starting with PowerStoreOS 4.2, RxDefinitions are integrated into the Health Check package distribution and no longer require separate installation. See article 000214752 PowerStore: Landing Page for In-Market off-release System Health Checks for installation instructions.

RxDefinition Alerts

Alerts within RxDefinitions are assigned to one of three codes, correlating to the supported severities:

  • Critical (0x03700104)*
  • Major (0x03700103)
  • Major (0x03700105)*
  • Minor (0x03700102)

Each identified issue in the RxDefinitions thin package is associated with one of these codes based on its severity level. In addition, every known issue alert is characterized with a specific alert text message, system impact, repair procedure, and a distinct article.

(*) Alert dials home when Dell SupportAssist is enabled.
