The DD3300 model is based upon the DELL R740xd server platform. As such , it has a wide range of available features which are unnecessary to support the Data Domain Operating System, and therefore are unsupported. This article is intended to distinguish between the supported and unsupported "platform" options only, and is not an exhaustive list of every capability of the DD3300. For the purposes of this article, we will define the terms "supported" and "unsupported" The terms Supported or Unsupported may apply to any available operations/functions/features/tools installed on the DD3300 platform.
"Supported"
A "supported" designation, means, that the Data Domain Development and QA teams have fully tested this "operation/function/feature/tool" , and are prepared to sanction, and offer support in the use of this "operation/function/feature/tool". By doing this we can guarantee the "operation/function/feature/tool" will exhibit ,expected behavior , contribute to customer satisfaction, and ensure the integrity of the user data stored on the Data Domain appliance.
"UNsupported"
The designation of unsupported means, that Data Domain Development and QA teams have not, and do not currently intend to fully tested this "operation/function/feature/tool" , and as such ,are not prepared to sanction its use, or offer support, in the use of this "operation/function/feature/tool". The usage of "operations/functions/features/tools" designated as unsupported, may result in ,unexpected behavior, unintended outages, and potential damage to the user data stored on the Data Domain 3300 appliance. At the discretion of Data Domain Engineering, Support Technicians, may be called upon, to use any of these designated "unsupported" operations/functions/features/tools" , however, unsupported "operations/functions/features/tools" will remain unsupported for customer use.
The following DD3300 platform operations, features, functions and tools are designated as "UNsupported"
- DELL Lifecycle Manager as well as all tools and functions found in the Lifecycle Manager interface.
- DELL PERC RAID controller utility (RAID is automatically provisioned and should never be manually modified)
- DELL OpenManage System Manager & DRAC tools
- All Access to ESXi hypervisor is unsupported
- Physical KVM ports on the front and rear of appliance are unsupported until you have upgraded to OS version 6.2.x
- NFC (near field communication)
- DELL mobile apps for system management
The following DD3300 Data Domain Operating System operations, features, functions, and tools are designated as "UNsupported"
- DATool (Disk Assessment Tool) & Disk Benchmark CLI
- V-server
- GRUB menu
The following DD3300 platform operations, features, functions and tools are designated as "supported" for the use cases provide below
- DELL iDRAC9
- BIOS access and modification - is supported only for configuring user/PW and ethernet port configurations for the iDRAC 9 port
- physical Serial port on rear of appliance
- iDRAC microusb port
- Virtual Tape Library (VTL) is supported only on Operating System vers. 6.2.x or higher
- Ethernet port bonding is supported only on Operating System vers. 6.2.x or higher and with some restrictions
- Platform FW and driver updates will be applied automatically be upgrading the DDOS version, however manual FW upgrades can be applied through iDRAC when requested by Engineering.
