PowerProtect: Hadoop backup fails DDHCFSSnapshotDiffOptionParser caught IOException: Permission denied

Symptoms

Hadoop full backups are successful, but subsequent backup fails with error 'DDHCFSSnapshotDiffOptionParser caught IOException: Permission denied'

In the dlp_subseq_backup log, the following error stack can be seen.

DDHCFSSnapshotDiffOptionParser caught IOException: Permission denied: user=BACKUP_USER, access=READ, inode="/edl/hdfs/prodE/.Trash/USERX":USERX:supergroup:drwx------
  • Where BACKUP_USER is the name of the user that the backup is being performed as, and USERX is the name of a Hadoop user.

Cause

The backup is being performed as a user that is not part of the super users groups, and thus does not have sufficient HDFS permissions to access the '.Trash' subdirectory structures.    

Resolution

Ensure that the backup user is a part of the superuser group.
