Symptoms

PowerProtect Data Manager bruges til at beskytte vSphere-miljøet med TSDM-løsningen (Transparent Snapshot Data Mover). vSphere Installation Bundle (VIB) blev implementeret mod ESXi-værterne i klyngen. Sikkerhedskopieringerne af den virtuelle maskine (VM) mislykkes periodisk med fejlkode ABV0016. PowerProtect Data Manager-brugergrænsefladen viser:

ABV0016: VM Direct engine 'localhost' is unable to back up the virtual machine 'my-vm-name' on vCenter 'my-vcernter-name' because of a vCenter API issue.

The VM Direct engine cannot complete the backup of this virtual machine because of a vCenter API operation did not complete successfully.

To troubleshoot this issue: 1) Verify that the vCenter can be reached. 2) If the vCenter is busy, wait for some activities to complete and then retry the operation. 3) Verify that the virtual machine exists on the vCenter.

Cause

ESXi-hypervisoren, der hoster den berørte VM, har ikke DPD-tjenesten (Data Protection Daemon) startet. Problemet opstod sporadisk, da vMotion flyttede de berørte VM er til ESXi-hypervisoren med den stoppede DPD-tjeneste.

Resolution

Sørg for, at DPD-tjenesten er startet på alle ESXi-værterne i klyngen. Hvis tjenesten stoppes, skal du vælge DPD-tjenesten og startindstillingen.

DPD-tjenesten kan også genstartes ved hjælp af en SSH-session til ESXi-værten. 
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is stopped
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd start
