Symptoms

PowerProtect Data Manager wordt gebruikt om de vSphere-omgeving te beschermen met de Transparent Snapshot Data Mover (TSDM)-oplossing. De vSphere Installation Bundle (VIB) is geïmplementeerd op de ESXi-hosts in het cluster. De back-ups van de virtuele machine (VM) mislukken af en toe met foutcode ABV0016. De gebruikersinterface van PowerProtect Data Manager laat het volgende zien:

ABV0016: VM Direct engine 'localhost' is unable to back up the virtual machine 'my-vm-name' on vCenter 'my-vcernter-name' because of a vCenter API issue.

The VM Direct engine cannot complete the backup of this virtual machine because of a vCenter API operation did not complete successfully.

To troubleshoot this issue: 1) Verify that the vCenter can be reached. 2) If the vCenter is busy, wait for some activities to complete and then retry the operation. 3) Verify that the virtual machine exists on the vCenter.

Cause

De ESXi-hypervisor die als host voor de getroffen VM fungeert, heeft de Data Protection Daemon (DPD)-service niet gestart. Het probleem deed zich af en toe voor toen vMotion de getroffen VM's verplaatste naar de ESXi-hypervisor terwijl de DPD-service was gestopt.

Resolution

Zorg ervoor dat de DPD-service is gestart op alle ESXi-hosts in het cluster. Als de service is gestopt, selecteert u de DPD-service en de startoptie.

De DPD-service kan ook opnieuw worden gestart met behulp van een SSH-sessie naar de ESXi-host. 
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is stopped
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd start
Starting dpd:Setting the memory limit for dpd resource pool on this host to 300 MB
Setting max number of file descriptors to 800
Setting MALLOC_ARENA_MAX to 20
success
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is running

Additional Information

Als de DPD-service niet actief blijft, neemt u contact op met VMware Support om de oorzaak van het DPD-serviceprobleem vast te stellen.
