Symptoms

O PowerProtect Data Manager é usado para proteger o ambiente vSphere com a solução Transparent Snapshot Data Mover (TSDM). O vSphere Installation Bundle (VIB) foi implementado com sucesso nos hosts do ESXi no cluster. Os backups de máquina virtual (VM) falham intermitentemente com o código de erro ABV0016. A interface do usuário do PowerProtect Data Manager mostra:

ABV0016: VM Direct engine 'localhost' is unable to back up the virtual machine 'my-vm-name' on vCenter 'my-vcernter-name' because of a vCenter API issue.

The VM Direct engine cannot complete the backup of this virtual machine because of a vCenter API operation did not complete successfully.

To troubleshoot this issue: 1) Verify that the vCenter can be reached. 2) If the vCenter is busy, wait for some activities to complete and then retry the operation. 3) Verify that the virtual machine exists on the vCenter.

Cause

O hypervisor ESXi que hospeda a VM afetada não tem o serviço Data Protection Daemon (DPD) iniciado. O problema ocorria intermitentemente, pois o vMotion estava movendo as VMs afetadas para o hypervisor ESXi com o serviço DPD interrompido.

Resolution

Certifique-se de que o serviço DPD foi iniciado em todos os hosts do ESXi no cluster. Se o serviço for interrompido, selecione o serviço DPD e a opção iniciar.

O serviço DPD também pode ser reiniciado usando uma sessão SSH para o host do ESXi. 
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is stopped
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd start
