What is an SIOKIT file?

An SIOKIT file is an encrypted file the Live Optics collector creates if you choose to store your collection data on your local system. This option is typically used when an Internet connection is not available to automatically transmit collected data directly to the Live Optics datacenter for processing. Instead, an SIOKIT file must be manually uploaded to the Live Optics datacenter.

The Live Optics collector gathers data from several category and asset types, including servers, storage arrays, software applications, and cloud infrastructure. This raw data must be processed and analyzed in the Live Optics datacenter before a project can be generated. To view the results of your data collection, you must upload an SIOKIT file to your Live Optics account where it is converted into a project.

Upload an SIOKIT File

You can upload an SIOKIT in two ways:

SIOKIT File Encryption

When you download the Live Optics collector it is linked to your account with an embedded RSA key. This key is used to encrypt and sign SIOKIT files. This way, Live Optics can identify the source of an SIOKIT file and associate it with a specific user account. The private key is stored in the Live Optics datacenter, so the SIOKIT file cannot be decrypted outside of Live Optics. Key pairs are generated on a per-collector basis for each download.

Can the SIOKIT be decrypted?

We can not decrypt a SIOKIT file.  A sample is downloaded with each collector if you want to see what it looks like.  Additionally, the final step of our collector is to create the SIOKIT file directly from the temp files auto-generated during collection.  These Temp files are not encrypted and can be reviewed before SIOKIT generation, whereupon they are deleted.  We cannot reconstitute Temp files into a working project.
