Instructions

ObjectScale is the new ECS!

With ObjectScale 4.0, we begin the unification of ECS and ObjectScale as a single product under the ObjectScale brand. Available immediately, this next-generation operating system carries forward the entire trusted ECS foundation and innovates with a modernized codebase and extensive feature enhancements.

The software-only update to OBS 4.0 is straightforward for current ECS 3.8.X customers. It is included at no extra cost under Dell ProSupport contracts for ECS. Everything in ECS rolls forward—including the user interface, workflows, automation, and APIs—preserving the customer investment and user experience.

What’s New in OBS 4.0

  • Greater efficiency

    • Improved space reclamation: Helps reduce system and metadata overhead, free up deleted capacity more quickly, and increase performance of background space reclamation processes for enhanced cluster stability.

    • Smart rebalancing: Simplifies node extensions and boosts performance to maximize system resources quickly.

    • Enhanced Copy-to-Cloud data movement: Adds support for S3 endpoints in AWS that use VPCs (Virtual Private Clouds).

  • Latest security enhancements

    • TLS 1.3 support using the user interface (UI) and management APIs for control path (data path support coming soon): Enforces a higher security posture for these services.

    • ObjectLock with ADO support added to the UI: Enables administrators to set the default behavior when accessing data in the buckets created in this namespace during a temporary site outage in a geo-federated setup.

    • Improved logging: Aligns with our strategy of improving security, which now adds additional S3 specific operations, such as S3MultiObjectDeleteOperation.

    • CLI-based encryption configuration added to the UI: Enables customers to rotate Secure Shell (SSH) keys and refresh Fabric SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates using CLI (command line interface).

  • Enhanced serviceability and support

    • Enhanced Directory Table (DT) health and runtime metrics: Drives faster, more proactive support and issue resolution for better system performance.

    • S3 listing updates: Includes Untrusted Listing Key validation and metadata overhead improvements for deleted objects; S3 Object listing is 3X faster for 2+ VDC sites.

    • Email alerting: Extends alerting and notification capabilities by enabling customers to send ObjectScale alerts through email (SMTP), providing better insights into cluster health
