Note: This example is for OMSA 10.1 on ESXi 7.x. Download the appropriate files if using a different version.

 

Installation instructions

  1. Download OMSA Offline vSphere Installation Bundle (VIB) from the Dell Support website. This example is for an R740 filtered to ESXi 7.x: 
  1. As the ESXi installation does not include the webserver, the Windows equivalent version is required to be downloaded and installed on a Windows Management system. The version can be higher, but not lower than the ESXi installation to function.  
  1. Enable SSH on the ESXi host. Establish an SSH session using PuTTY or a similar application.
  2. Connect to the ESXi host using WinSCP - Upload the OMSA VIB to the host. In this example, the directory is called tmp
  3. In the putty session, change the directory to the tmp directory to confirm the file is uploaded: 
    #cd /tmp
#ls
  4. Run the ESXCLI command to install the OMSA VIB including the path and filename. For example: 
    #esxcli software vib install -d /tmp/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-10.1.0.0-4634.VIB-ESX70i_A00.zip
  5. Earlier versions of OMSA required a restart. It is no longer necessary to restart. The installation results show if a system reboot is necessary. 


Viewing the system information using OMSA

  1. On the Windows host, install OMSA using the Windows installation package. 
  2. Once installed, connect using the Manage Remote Node link on the bottom of the login page.
  3. A connect to prompt appears. Type in the ESXi host IP, and ESXi host credentials to log in.
