Symptoms

The NetWorker action is configured with "On Failure" SNMP trap notifications using the nsrtrap command: NetWorker: How To Configure, Create, And Modify SNMP Notifications
The NetWorker server is installed on a Windows server.
The NetWorker server was upgraded or deployed as one of the following versions:

  • 19.11.x (all releases)
  • 19.12.0.0 to 19.12.0.2
  • 19.13.0.0 to 19.13.0.1

Prior to upgrading to one of the impacted releases, a failed backup sends a failedActionNotification, for example:
failedActionNotification trap

On the impacted NetWorker releases, only the nwServerNotification is received. The failedActionNotification and other Object Identity (OID)-based SNMP notifications are not received.

Cause

The NetWorker Administration Guide states the following:
NOTE regarding SNMP traps

On the impacted versions, only the "Legacy Notification" is sent from Windows NetWorker servers. This notification appears as "nwServerNotification" (OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.160.0.1). The notification is sent with a single string with the SNMP message. It does not separate the details into fields in the same way that OID-based notifications do.

 

This issue has not been observed on Linux NetWorker servers.

 

A defect was identified by NetWorker engineering.

Resolution

This issue is addressed in the following NetWorker releases:

  • 19.12.0.3 
  • 19.13.0.2 (Tentative November 2025)

After upgrading to one of the above releases (or later). The OID-based SNMP notifications are sent again.
