PowerFlex 5.x: Storage Node is Running in IMM for More Than Allowed Time

Symptoms

Alerts seen in Meta-Data Manager (MDM) events:

2025-06-11 12:20:56.044 STORAGE_NODE_EXCEEDED_IMM_TIMEOUT CRITICAL         
Storage Node node_0 (ID: 85ca5e5700000000) is running with instant maintenance mode (IMM) for more than X minutes.
  • System performance may be impacted. I/O flow is impacted on the specific node.
  • Device group's (DG) high availability is single-degraded or dual-degraded, which may put the system availability at risk.

Cause

If the node does not exit IMM within a predefined threshold period, configured by the MDM parameter seconds_before_warning_of_too_long_imm, the system raises an alert.

The same alert arises in a scenario where the NDU process exceeds the configured threshold duration, as during an NDU, all Storage Nodes enter IMM.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, either exit IMM using the exit_storage_node_maintenance_mode command, or ensure that the DG’s high availability status is not in a dual-degraded state.

Use the query_storage_node command to validate the IMM status of a specific Storage Node.

The query_device_group command can validate the DG Health State:
