OneFS 9.7.1.11 upgrade causes node boot failure on Gen5 nodes that are not Isilon X210

Summary: A software change in OneFS 9.7.1.11 removes support for A100, HD400, NL410, S210, and X410 nodes. Those node types to fail to boot with OneFS 9.7.1.11.

Symptoms

When booting OneFS version 9.7.1.11 on an impacted node type, the system fails to boot and enters the recovery menu:

NOTE: get_func: No validate function for installation config method UNKNOWN
Installation config method is UNKNOWN: Unknown/Unsupported?
<isi_rc> SIGUSR1 received!!!

Additional attempts to boot the node fail in the same way.

Cause

OneFS 9.7.1.11 removes the software necessary to properly detect the following node types and load-specific hardware configurations during the boot process:

  • A100
  • HD400
  • NL410
  • S210
  • X410

Resolution

A resolution for this issue is being considered and developed.

X210 nodes are still fully supported and are not subject to this issue; they boot into version 9.7.1.11 as expected.
