Detailed error:
(Note: x.x.x.11 is ACM Public IP, and x.x.x.12 is ESXi public IP)
Reverse lookup failed for x.x.x.11 with primary domain name server x.x.x.240.
Reverse lookup failed for x.x.x.12 with primary domain name server x.x.x.240.
- NVT tool check passed
- nslookup works fine for both forward and reverse DNS lookup
- Use ACM dnsjava utility to do dns lookup failed:
dpappliance-acm:~ # java -cp /usr/local/dataprotection/tomcat/webapps/dataprotection/WEB-INF/lib/vcedpa-externalutil-2.4.0.jar com.emc.vcedpa.network.IPResolveUtil x.x.x.240 x.x.x.11
Input : DNS[x.x.x.240], IP Address[x.x.x.11].
Hostname: x.x.x.11
Reverse lookup failed.
Compare to nslookup result of the same dns query which succeeded:
dpappliance-acm:~ # nslookup x.x.x.11
Server: x.x.x.240
Address: x.x.x.240#53
11.x.x.x.in-addr.arpa name = dp4400-acm.sample.local.

Cause
With current IDPA ACM DNS client module - dnsjava (v2.4 or earlier), it sends DNS "ANY" query to DNS server for reverse lookup. Most DNS servers can respond "ANY" query properly, but for DNS servers that are not be able to process "ANY" query, reverse lookup fails.
Resolution
This issue is permanently addressed in IDPA 2.6.0 and later.
If IDPA/PowerProtect DP Series is running at 2.4, v2.4.1, or v2.5 or earlier, there are two workarounds:
If IDPA/PowerProtect DP Series is running at 2.4, v2.4.1, or v2.5 or earlier, there are two workarounds:
- Try a different DNS Server that supports "ANY" type of DNS query.
- Create a technical support ticket for assistance.
