Symptoms

  • PowerProtect Data Manager UI shows:
Critical Alert SYS0052 - Application Data Management Service is restarting on host
Any requests sent to the Application Data Management (ADM) service during the restart may fail.
  • ADM log shows:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
Heap dump generation
  • Agent service logs show:
File system task failure with excessively large error response payload
  • Subsequent scheduled jobs may fail during the ADM service restart window.

Cause

Verbose task error messages from failed file system protection jobs generate oversized API responses that exhaust ADM service memory, leading to unresponsiveness and service restarts.

Resolution

Upgrade to PowerProtect Data Manager 19.21 version which resolves the memory handling issue.

Workaround (when upgrade is not immediately possible):

Enable debug logging for the affected file system protection policy to help detect, analyze, and reduce oversized error responses.
