Symptoms

After upgrading to DCU version 5.6.0 or higher, the application may fail to run or install updates during the OSD phase. If this issue occurs, the DCU logs record an error with return code 3006.

Affected Application:

  • Dell Command Update (DCU) version 5.6.0 or higher

Cause

This issue occurs due to recent changes made by Microsoft to the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) Application Programming Interface (API). Consequently, DCU is restricted from performing update activities during the OOBE phase and the subsequent one-hour quiet period.

Resolution

The engineering department is working on a fix to be released in DCU version 5.7.1 and later. The updated DCU is posted to the computer's support page once it is made available by the end of June, 2026.
