Symptoms

Gen6 nodes have two SSD bays for caching drives, but generally only one SSD is populated at purchase.  The second bay reports its state as EMPTY which is normal for most Gen6 nodes.  Isilon Support has seen requests to replace the empty bay.

Cause

Gen6 nodes have two SSD bays for caching drives, most Gen6 nodes ship from production with bay 2 as empty.
Bay 1 and Bay 2 are reserved for SSD Cache drives.

Note: The sled drive bays are labeled Bay A0, Bay A1, Bay A2. The cache SSD bays do not have the alphabetical prefix and the Sled is labeled as N/A.

Resolution

If they want to purchase a upgrade to populate Bay 2 of the Gen6 nodes, they should contact their sales team.
