The /usr/local/avamar/var/log/vcs/deploymanager.log shows the following:

DEBUG [pool-5-thread-2][worker.TaskWorker#teTaskDescription]: Updating task description: Registering proxy...
INFO [pool-5-thread-2][domain.Proxy#register]: Proxy hostname: localhost.localdom
WARN [pool-5-thread-2][worker.DeployWorker#run]: Deploy failed. null
DEBUG [pool-5-thread-2][worker.TaskWorker#teTaskDescription]: Updating task description:
INFO [pool-5-thread-2][worker.TaskWorker#sendTaskError]: Sending fault com.emc.avamar.vmware.vcs.deploymanager.register_hostname_invalid

Cause

The reverse lookup entry for the proxy is missing from the Domain Name System (DNS) server.

This causes the proxy hostname to become "localhost.localdom," which is not recognized by Avamar as a valid hostname.

Resolution

Add a reverse lookup entry for the proxy in the DNS server.
