Dell Unity: 25GbE ports not initializing on SP boot or initial configuration (User Correctable)

Summary: One or more 25GbE ports with a four-port mezzanine or I/O module may not initialize and remain link down upon a SP reboot or initial cabling/recabling.

Symptoms

The array may report link down on one or more ports set to run at 25GbE and connected via copper to a switch. This can occur when an SP reboots or when the 25GbE copper connections are initially cabled between the array and the switch.

This effects Dell Unity XT systems configured with 25GbE four-port, copper connected mezzanine or I/O module(s) set for 25GbE transmission speed. Ports configured for Optical connectivity or those ports running at 10GbE speed or less are not affected.

Cause

Firmware robustness for the 25GbE Card.

Resolution

Make sure the array is using cables of the correct type and length approved for use by Dell EMC on the Unity XT platform.

Fix:
Fixed in Unity OE 5.1.0.0.5.394 and newer

Workaround:
Dell EMC recommends the workaround of toggling the Auto-Negotiate setting on the switch port.

Testing by Dell Network Engineering and Unity Engineering have reliably utilized this workaround to establish link(s) that initially did not come up. This process allows Link initialization to successfully take place. This workaround can be performed remotely and safely. It is not service impacting to any other established link. Once the link is established it will remain so until the next boot.
