Download and Install the Goav tool at Avamar: Goav tool
Once Goav has been placed on Avamar, go to the directory and make the tool executable.

Available Proxy Deployment Manager (PDM) commands:
managed proxy-add proxy-check recommendation remove-pdm-task
admin@avmr:/home/admin/#: ./goav vcenter pdm PDM related operations. Usage: goav vcenter pdm [command] Available Commands: managed Gives list of proxies with the PDM managedby extension configured on vCenter proxy-add Proxy-add will associate manually deployed proxies with Proxy Deployment Manager proxy-check Checks Proxy Configuration for PDM recommendation Runnings PDM Proxy Recommendation against vCenter(s) remove-pdm-task Removes any running/hung PDM recommendation task in vCenter. Flags: -h, --help help for pdm Global Flags: -d, --debug debug output -f, --force Ignore Configuration -n, --noheader Do no display header Use "goav vcenter pdm [command] --help" for more information about a command.
Commands Explained:
The following command identifies proxies with the PDM managed-by extension key:
./goav vcenter pdm managed
- Retrieves a list of Avamar proxies from Avamar
- Establishes a connection to each corresponding proxy's vCenter
- Reads the below file managed by extension key
"com.emc.avamar.vmware.vcs.deploymanager"
- Gathers vApp network information and other VMware environmental details
- Prints the collected data into a table
./goav vcenter pdm proxy-add
- Retrieves a list of Avamar proxies from Avamar
- Establishes a connection to each corresponding proxy's vCenter
- Validate if the proxy is already managed in PDM; if so, it skips the proxy
- Validates the proxy configuration
- If the proxy is NOT managed in PDM and has a valid configuration, it runs the following on each proxy:
initproxyappliance.sh managedby
- Optional flag:
Used to show Proxy Configuration and Invalid Config Reasons: --verbose Does not check proxy configuration, "runs initproxyappliance.sh managedby" on each proxy: --forceThe following command checks proxy configuration and lists any reasons why a proxy is not managed:
./goav vcenter pdm proxy-check
- Checks proxy configuration for Proxy Deployment Manager (PDM) compatibility using the following tests:
1 - The proxy is associated with a vCenter system and not a stand-alone ESX Host. 2 - The proxy is not inside a vCenter vApp container. 3 - The proxy has the PDM managedby extension: "com.emc.avamar.vmware.vcs.deploymanager". 4 - The proxy has vApp Options enabled. 5 - The proxy's instanceUUID is inside /usr/local/avamar/var/vcs/dm/proxies, indicating it is managed by this Avamar server.The following command generates a PDM recommendation task in vCenter:
./goav vcenter pdm recommendation
- Retrieves a list of vCenters from Avamar
- Starts a recommendation task for all vCenters or if the optional
--name flagis passed, for the specified vCenter- Optional flag:
Used to specify how long the backup window is (default is 720 minutes): --backupwindow Used to specify the average change rate (default is 0.12% or 12%%): --rate Used to specify include protecting local datastores: --localdiskThe following command removes any running or stalled PDM recommendation tasks in vCenter:
./goav vcenter pdm remove-pdm-task
- Retrieves a list of vCenters from Avamar
- Establishes a connection to vCenter and checks for a running PDM recommendation task
- If a task is found, the task is removed.
