Symptoms

Error message:

Invalid password parameter. Password with special character is accepted by interactive CLI but rejected by non-interactive mode.

Affected versions:
RecoverPoint for VMs 5.3.SP4 - day one

Cause

When the user tried to update vcenter_server_registration from the noninteractive CLI with the following command:

update_vcenter_server_registration cluster=syscom_rp4vm_c1 name=vcenter703.test.local new_user_name=user1@test.local password="D*9m|hr;)xoOFGb{" validate_credentials=yes,

The password authentication failed with the expected error:

Invalid password parameter

This was due to the user entering invalid characters from the unaccepted list in the password.

However, when trying to update vcenter_server_registration from the Interactive CLI, the same password is accepted. This is because the validation for the password attribute is unexpectedly skipped.

Resolution

The user must avoid adding invalid characters in the password. Always avoid these characters: " ` " ' < > ; | & "

This issue is planned to be addressed in a future release of RecoverPoint for VMs.
