Unity: Unable to ssh to Unity management IP but UI login works

Symptoms

User can log in Unity over UI but unable to connect over SSH, error shows that no matching key exchange method was found.

Unity is running code 5.3 which had already removed all sha1 key exchange algorithms.

 

Cause

Customer is using a software called DBSAFER as an ssh proxy to control the ssh access from the client to Unity. The client establishes an ssh connection with DBSAFER instead of Unity when ssh to the Unity management IP. The DBSAFER is running an old openssh version that only supports some old kex exchange algorithms which are not supported by the client.

The "ssh -vvv <Unity mgmt IP>" output shows that the server is running open SSH version 3.0 and it also indicates the DBSAFER version 2.30.205.

Resolution

  • Disable DBSAFER or configure DBSAFER to allow client directly ssh to the Unity.
  • Upgrade DBSAFER to have it support more secured SSH algorithms.
