VCF on VxRail: NSX Upgrade From SDDC Manager Fails During Pre‑Check With Compute Manager or Transport Node Connectivity Errors

Summary: NSX upgrades initiated from SDDC Manager may fail during the upgrade pre‑check with errors indicating that NSX is not properly connected to compute managers or transport nodes.

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

During upgrade pre‑check in SDDC Manager, one or more of the following errors appear:

  • "NSX audit not connected compute managers"
  • "NSX audit not connected transport nodes"

In NSX Manager, affected transport nodes may show a degraded status.

Cause

These errors occur when NSX components required for upgrade validation are not in a healthy connectivity state:

  • The Compute Manager connection in NSX is DOWN.
  • One or more Transport Nodes have connectivity failures or show a degraded operational state.
  • Stale connectivity information may exist in SDDC Manager or vCenter

Resolution

Perform the following steps to remediate the issue:

  1. Resolve transport node connectivity issues in NSX, ensuring all impacted nodes return to a healthy state.
  2. Confirm that the Compute Manager connection is UP in NSX Manager.
  3. Restart the SDDC Manager appliance and vCenter Server.
  4. Rerun the SDDC Manager upgrade pre‑check.
  5. If failures continue, perform a rolling reboot of the NSX Manager cluster, rebooting the node hosting the VIP last.
