Instructions

Unable to join a Domain when imaging a laptop or tablet using a USB Type-C to Ethernet Adapter

When imaging a laptop or tablet using the SCCM, using a USB Type-C to Ethernet adapter the tool fails to join the domain. This is due to a problem with the 2018 version of the Realtek Ethernet driver in Windows 10 (Versions 1702-1803). However, the same issue is not seen with the 2016 version of the same driver with Windows 10 (Version 1809 - Latest build).

Dell's engineering group web posted the Dell Local Area Network (LAN) Dongles Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) Flash Disable Tool. This tool must be run on each network adapter in use with the imaging process.

The tool can be found using the following steps:

  1. Browse to the Dell Support page:

  2. Click Browse all products.

  3. Select Electronics and Accessories.

  4. Select PC and Tablet Accessories, and choose your Dongle from those listed.

  5. Click Drivers & Downloads.

  6. Select the Operating System.

  7. Under Category, select Cables.

  8. Locate the latest Dell LAN Dongles SPI Flash Disable Tool.

  9. Click Download and save the file to your laptop or tablet.

  10. Open File Explorer and using a tool such as WinZip, extract the downloaded file to get the usable tool.

  11. Run the tool on each network adapter to be used in the imaging process.
