VNX: 712f0002 Volume Mode Changed From Split to Tracking or Tracking to Split

Symptoms

Volume mode changes from split to tracking or from tracking to split.

Several notifications being received for:

Event Number 712f0002 Severity Information Host xxxxx Storage Array xxxxxxxxxx SP N/A Device N/A Description Volume xxxxxxxx has changed mode from split to tracking

 

Cause

VNX logs change from RPSplitter.

Notification is received because it is selected in the notification template that is being used.

  • 'Split' means that the splitter is splitting the I/Os
  • 'Tracking' means, the CG is paused; it is not splitting, but the RP is still tracking the I/O

Resolution

Notifications are informational only. They are benign and can safely be ignored.

Workaround:
Remove event from the notification template in Unisphere.

  1. Go to System > Monitoring and Alerts > Notifications for Block > Notification Templates.
  2. Select the Notification Template in question, and select Properties.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Open the appropriate severity (in this case, Information).
  5. Open the appropriate category (in this case, Basic Array Features).
  6. Clear one or more unwanted alerts by event number (in this case, 712f0002)
