Server Infrastructure

Dell Data Guardian requires Dell Security Management Server (formerly Dell Data Protection | Enterprise Edition Server or Dell Data Protection | Virtual Edition) v9.6 or later for policies and key management.

Note: This article focuses on the Dell Data Guardian system requirements for desktop and laptop devices. For Dell Data Guardian mobile system requirements, reference Dell Data Guardian Mobile Device System Requirements.

Permissions

Administration rights are required to install Dell Data Guardian. A non-administrator with elevated privileges is not supported.

Other requirements are required based on the operating system platform. Click Windows or Mac for more information about specific requirements.

Windows

Dell Data Guardian has specific Hardware, Anti-virus Exclusions, and Software requirements for Windows. Click the appropriate subject for more information.

Hardware

Minimum hardware requirements must meet the minimum specifications for the operating system in use:

  • 200 MB free disk space, depending on operating system
  • 10/100/1000 or Wi-Fi network interface card
  • IPv4 TCP/IP installed and activated1

1IPv6 is not supported.

Anti-virus Exclusions

Anti-virus solutions (such as Symantec, McAfee, and Trend Micro) running on the same endpoint as Dell Data Guardian must have the following folders, files, and extensions added as exclusions.

Folders:
  • C:\Program Files\Dell\Data Guardian\
  • C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\Dell\Data Guardian\Portal
Note: If running both Dell Data Guardian using Protected Office Mode and Dell Endpoint Security Suite Enterprise using Application Control, an exclusion must be added. From Dell Endpoint Security Suite, the following must be added to the Application Control Allowed Folders:
  • C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\assembly\tmp
    • [USERNAME] represents the user to exclude in your environment.
