Instructions
Starting from Avamar version 7.3, the Avamar Backend Capacity Reporting feature can report on backups stored on a Data Domain (DD).
Previously, the feature could report only on backups stored within the Avamar GSAN.
There are some limitations to the report which have been clarified by engineering but not documented elsewhere.
The purpose of this article is to bring attention to these limitations and provide other information that may be pertinent to the DD Backend Capacity reports.
In order for the report to work, the following conditions are required:
-
Avamar must be version 7.3 or greater
-
The Data Domain Operating System (DDOS) must be version 5.7 or greater
-
The DDOS 5.7 feature "Physical Capacity Measurement" must be enabled
Note: The report cannot be run from the command line. It must be run from the Avamar Administrator UI.
For more information about DDOS Physical Capacity Measurement, see Data Domain: Physical Capacity Measurement or Physical Capacity Reporting Frequently Asked Questions
Warning: if the Avamar is running v7.3 but DDOS is 5.6 or older, running the report shows error: "Failed to connect to <data domain host>. Summary will be incomplete"
