Symptoms

A checkpoint validation (hfscheck) can fail with one of many symptoms. This article addresses the error MSG_ERR_CMD_FAIL.

This event can be logged as a Dial Home event, a UI event or seen on the command line of the Avamar Utility Node:

UI Event:

<4004> hfscheck of cp.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx failed on error: MSG_ERR_CMD_FAIL
 

Output from status.dpn:

Last hfscheck failed with result MSG_ERR_CMD_FAIL

Cause

This failure may be caused by intermittent network issues on the Avamar server and its data nodes, but this is not verified.

Further investigation is required.
