Instructions

DELL EMC Unity XT systems were announced in May 2019.

Available 'All-Flash' models are 380F, 480F, 680F and 880F, while available 'Hybrid' models are 380, 480, 680 and 880.

  • Unity XT (x80/x80F models) use Intel Xeon processors utilizing Intel's  Skylake  architecture. Previous generations of Unity used 'Broadwell' (x50/x50F models) and 'Haswell' (x00/x00F models) system architectures.

  • Unity XT series arrays run Operating Environment (OE) code 5.0.x.

  • 5.0.0 (GA release, June 2019), 5.0.1 (SP1 release, October 2019) and 5.0.2 (SP2 release, January 2020) are available OE codes for the Unity XT platforms (at time of writing).

  • 5.0.x. OE code is also backwards compatible with existing x50/x50F and x00/x00F models

  • Unity XT systems deliver impressive gains in performance and efficiency, and provide multiple paths to the cloud. Also, both Hybrid and All-Flash Arrays are NVMe-ready.

  • Up to 2x more performance, and NVMe ready.

  • Up to 5:1 data reduction (advanced inline dedupe/compression)

  • 85% system efficiency

  • Supports Multi-Cloud -  Dell Technologies Cloud Platform, Cloud Data Services (VMware Cloud on AWS, VMware Cloud Foundation) integration, and Cloud Connected Systems (CTA, and CloudIQ)

  • New 4-Port 'MEZZ' (Mezzanine) card supports 25GbE, also new 12Gb/s SAS Backend Support, and new 12TB NL-SAS drives support.

  • There are two M.2 SSD devices; one connected with the SATA protocol, and one connected with the NVMe protocol, located inside each SP for 480/F, 680/F, and 880/F systems. The devices serve two separate purposes; one as a backup 'vaulting' device in the event of an SP failure, and one as a boot device for the system operating environment.

  • Disk Array Enclosure (DAE) options for 380/F, 480/F, 680/F, and 880/F are:

  • 25-drive 2U DAE using 2.5-inch drives

  • 15-drive 3U DAE using 3.5-inch drives

  • 80-drive 3U DAE using 2.5-inch drives (fits in standard 40U cabinet, no dense cabinet required)

  • Supports 1-to-Many (Fan-Out 1:4), and Cascaded asynchronous file replication topologies.

  • Serviceability improvements: Automatic ODFU (Drive Firmware upgrades) after OE code upgrades.

  • Unity XT (Converged) storage options are also available in VxBlock Systems.
