Symptoms
O MCS (Management Console Server) está inativo e não pode ser iniciado.
dpnctl start mcs

Start the Administrator Server first.Cause
As permissões no /usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_data/prefs/mcserver.xml estão incorretas:

O arquivo e o grupo devem ser admin, e as permissões devem ser 664:

Resolution
1. Corrija as permissões e a propriedade conforme necessário:
chown admin:admin /usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_data/prefs/mcserver.xml
chmod 664 /usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_data/prefs/mcserver.xml
2. Verificar:
ls -thrl /usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_data/prefs/
total 68K
